The Monastery of Sinaia was founded between 1690 and 1695, when a small church was erected by order of Prince Mihai Cantacuzino. At the time it was the first religious construction in the town. The church was painted by Pârvu Mutu (1657-1735), the best-known artist of his time and author of many frescoes and icons. The monastic complex was extended in the 19th century, when a large church was built. Now it also includes a museum that houses old manuscripts and art objects
